It's a natural deodorant!

I began to be interested about making natural deodorants when I was introduced to the negative effects of aluminum.  In this day and age, it is so difficult to really distinguish between "natural or organic" and "plain not good for you".  To add to that, I am not a chemist, although my entire family has some tie to the medical field.  So how can I make something with natural ingredients that will be good for me, and consequently, good for you?

Well, simple.  You research, you consult and you gather ingredients to make a good deodorant.  Yup, that exactly what I did.  I began to ask myself what a good deodorant was.

What is a natural deodorant and what is the deal with aluminum?

 A good deodorant technically masks or neutralizes the body odor caused by bacteria.   “Natural deodorants are aluminum-free products. “Aluminum salts are the only FDA-approved chemical antiperspirant.” Aluminum can be irritating to sensitive skin, so if you’re prone to rashes or itchiness, you can say goodbye to antiperspirant.

Well, let me start by tell you this:  Aluminum although found in nature has been believed to cause cancer.  To me, this is pretty much a Nono. Many deodorants, including some that claim to be all natural contain aluminum and/or aluminum derivatives (as these serve as an antiperspirant… and I believe we do not want this anymore). There are parabens are in many deodorants…but not in ours!  In fact, our deodorants are free of parabens, aluminum and phthalates.

It's really a personal choice when it comes to what you use.  I believe I found a formula that works at least for 12 hours. Remember though not all skins are created equal and the same goes for body odors (smile).  Our Natural deodorant is made with skin loving oils such as coconut, almond and or argan oil to name a few, clays and root powders, Vitamin E and essential oils.  I am still trying to perfect it because I want to eliminate "staining" your clothing.  Instead of Baking Soda, I use Arrowroot powder. Arrowroot contains a good amount of potassium, iron and B vitamins, which is great for metabolism, circulation and heart health.  When used in cosmetics, it enables active ingredients to penetrate the upper levels of your skin as it has great moisture absorbing qualities.  Your skin will be silkier and smoother. Arrowroot powder also boasts odor-repelling properties and can help draw out toxins and bacteria that cause smell in the first place.

Have I convinced you yet? I have tested the deodorant in a conventional plastic tube.  It worked very well even in the tropical climates.  I am now trying to transition to a more sustainable and biodegradable container.  You can use your deodorant for 2-3 months before you need another one.  I have posted a picture on my instagram account @savonsdesiles.
