How many soaps sitting on a shelf of a store can tell you the story of how they became to be? A smirky smile comes to shape my lips as I write this. For the past 5 years, I have mentally registered the story behind the making of each of my soaps.
The events that preceded our "Cheer Green Clay" started in a 16 year old teen aged boy's room. It was actually my son's room. These blue walls could count so many "recommendations, or dialogues transformed into the "do this instead of that", but as I recall this conversation, this is what transpired:
"Mom, my face is looking a bit bad. I have these spots and zits.....Can you help me". At that age, a senior in high school and like many others his age, my son was looking to keep the "charming and sensitive popular guy" status intact. He could not be seen with zits!!!!!
I took it upon myself to "correct" the situation and started researching ingredients that could help the "fragile skin" that my son wore. I dived into the study of clays, Aloe vera, and their benefits. Once I was ready, I purchased the ingredients I needed and put the formulation to the test. Waiting for 5 weeks was a chore. Jay could not understand that he needed to wait that long, but oh boy was it worth it!
Here is what I found about the green clay:
Green clay, also known as illite, is an organic material comprised of a host of essential minerals, iron oxides, and decomposed plant material such as kelp and seaweed. The clay is truly green in color; the more it leans toward gray-green, the less valuable it is deemed.
The absorbent properties of French green clay work in beauty treatments by drawing out impurities and toxins from the skin, toning and firming while stimulating circulation. The clay also acts like a magnet that helps unclog pores and wash away dirt, oils, and dead skin.
Armed with this knowledge I prepared a balance recipe with skin loving oils to create our Chère Green Clay! My son was happy and so was I, because I experienced first hand what followed through. None only did his skin change back to its better days, but my child was happy. My social butterfly was back! Needless to say that all his friends came looking for the special soap.
